Dance Conditioning

Jill’s conditioning classes for dancers are designed to educate dancers about how their bodies function in dance and to provide strength, flexibility and balance needed for dance but generally omitted from traditional dance classes.  See the Class Schedule for days and times. 

 Jill is also available to teach Dance Conditioning at your dance studio or summer intensive - classes can be developed to meet the needs of your students.

Dance conditioning focuses on a variety of methodologies and movement therapies including:


Pilates and pilates based exercises for core strength, alignment, balanced musculature, flexibility and ease of movement and injury prevention


Body care:  body rolling and other myofascial release techniques to keep the body healthy and ready to dance


Anatomy for dancers


Conditioning to facilitate dance, such as turnout strength, turnout flexibility and how to use turnout.  Exercises developed specifically for ballet and other dance forms to prepare the body to work in a lengthened manner.  


Tension reduction through development of proper strength, body awareness, and forming optimal movement patterns.  Principles of Alexander Technique are applied throughout Dance Conditioning classes.


Imagery for dance and movement.  


Injury prevention using the above as well as sound, correct understanding of the biomechanics of dance movements.  


Injury care, rehabilitation, nutrition for dance and other related topics are covered.  


Pointe Conditioning:  exercises (mat and en pointe) to develop strength and control in pointe work.
