CBL Assessment 1: Setting the Stage for Success

2. Consider setting up a collaborative space for student teams to collect, organize, and collaborate on CBL projects. A few to try out are listed below.

CBL Assessment 2: Assessment at the Start

After listening:

1. Search the rubrics at http://rubistar.4teachers.org and see what is already available. Or create your own starting with a template. Create a free rubistar account and save your rubric for future use.
2. Create a free Google account, if you do not already have one. At http://docs.google.com create a New Google form and practice creating a simple assessment tool. Send the link to a friend or two and see how the data aggregates into your Google spreadsheet.

CBL Assessment 3: Ongoing Student Documentation

• Choose one of the following student journaling formats or set up a variety of choices for students to choose from:
• Paper journals (non-digital)
• Word processing document
• Google doc shared with the teacher
• Blog/Discussion Forum where students can post comments
• Google form or survey where students submit answers
• Photobooth or other form of video journal
• Consider creating general posting guidelines for what students should and should not include as well as a timeline for posting their ongoing reflections for assessment purposes.

CBL Assessment 4: Checkpoints in the process

1. Create a “Challenge Contract Template” as a Google doc and set sharing permissions so that your students can open, edit and save a copy as for their team checkpoints.
2. Get the feel for how Google Calendars works by creating a shared calendar with project checkpoints and deadlines.

CBL Assessment 5: Alternative Modes of Assessment

Choose one of the following alternative assessments and experiment with form, structure, and tool to be able to share with students for purposes of assessing. If using portfolios develop a list of assets, if a reflection guide, create questions for reflection, etc. Remember that the teacher can begin to create the assessment device and students can also give input to help shape it once the challenge has begun.
