Day 3 started a little later then Day 2, mostly because bed time on Day 2 was well after midnight. We had to set up camp in the dark, but when Dan and Sergio hit their pillows they were out in no time. Both of them are very tired. Sergio has probably walked 1/3 or more of the miles with Dan. He is a great friend.

I drove the boys back toward the place where they ended the night before at around 9 am. They were able to push forward toward Norfolk up the Cowboy Trail and arrived back at our campsite just after noon. After a short break which included a nap they were back out, this time headed south down US-81.

From this point forward they will be trailed by a vehicle at all times for safety purposes. We have a few people that will trade those duties on and off throughout the days. That fact seems a bit embarrassing considering the duties of doing all the walking are left up to Daniel. He has a tremendous spirit. I am so proud of him.

The skies are overcast and there is a bit of a northwest wind which have been helpful. Dan and Sergio both mentioned they have seen some pretty cool things in nature along the way. They have observed birds and reptiles of various species. They have heard coyotes calling in the evenings and even came uncomfortably close to a group of skunks. Don’t worry, it could have been much worse.

I would imagine there are a lot of people that are traveling this weekend that are wondering what is going on when they come across the picture above. Lets hope they are asking lots of questions and educating themselves about the the circumstances of the the kids we fight for.

We are hopeful that more media will come out on Monday and Tuesday to see what Daniel is up to. I will post on a later blog some numbers that you can call to inform them of what we are up to and your desire to see some coverage of this great event.

Say a little prayer for Dan, that his body hold up as he presses on. Thanks for following and I hope to see you all on the 9th in Lincoln. Bring a friend or two! Si Se Puede!

Daniel’s feet became a bit of an issue through day 2 of his walk. After covering 32 miles on a shortened first day he struggled to maintain that pace during day 2 of his journey. Some adjustments were made, in the form of a new pair of shoes (one half size bigger then the previous pair) and he was able to push on. The delay in finding, fitting and purchasing cost him some time, but he was able to recover quite well. He forged on walking well into the dark of night.

Dan was joined by his friend Sergio for some of the miles and was supported by friends that made the trip from O’Neill to keep him supplied with plenty of water and snacks. He also made contact with lots of friendly people along the way. They have offered him all kinds of encouragement, some have offered to take him to dinner, others have told him how his journey has inspired them. One individual even sought him out to give him some money for ice cream when he reached the next town.

When he finally shutdown he had matched his total from the previous plus a few miles covering a total of 34 miles. This placed him near Battle Creek. He and Sergio were picked up near their stopping point and we made camp at Tahazouka Park in Norfolk.

I’ve spoken with Dan several times through these last few days and as expected he has expressed many emotions. Through it all his spirit and determination have been unwavering. He understands like many of us that there are kids all over this country that need our help. This battle is about right and wrong, make no mistake about it. We will make this happen. Si Se Puede!

He was joined in his last nine miles by his friend Sergio. Along the way lots of people stopped by to offer support. They brought him water and snacks. He journeyed back to O’Neill by car for the last night in his own bed for a couple of days.

He will get right back at it as he returns to Clearwater in the morning to set out again. His goal is to make it to Norfolk by the end of the day on Saturday. This will hopefully allow him to build in some time to visit with media members at the beginning of next week as he pushes south. We are glad that the Norfolk Daily News ran a story on him on Thursday. Here is a link for those of you that haven’t seen it.

We have many people planning to join us for our June 9th rally. We rally hope that all of you reading this will do your best to help spread the word. We hope you will car pool and make this event as big as it deserves to be.

Its time to put Nebraska and the rest of the nation on notice that we need meaningful change that serves the best interest of our kids. Its time to pass the DREAM Act as a stand alone piece of legislation. Si Se Puede!
