Nebraska Dream Walk
Nebraska Dream Walk
Daniel’s feet became a bit of an issue through day 2 of his walk. After covering 32 miles on a shortened first day he struggled to maintain that pace during day 2 of his journey. Some adjustments were made, in the form of a new pair of shoes (one half size bigger then the previous pair) and he was able to push on. The delay in finding, fitting and purchasing cost him some time, but he was able to recover quite well. He forged on walking well into the dark of night.
Dan was joined by his friend Sergio for some of the miles and was supported by friends that made the trip from O’Neill to keep him supplied with plenty of water and snacks. He also made contact with lots of friendly people along the way. They have offered him all kinds of encouragement, some have offered to take him to dinner, others have told him how his journey has inspired them. One individual even sought him out to give him some money for ice cream when he reached the next town.
When he finally shutdown he had matched his total from the previous plus a few miles covering a total of 34 miles. This placed him near Battle Creek. He and Sergio were picked up near their stopping point and we made camp at Tahazouka Park in Norfolk.
I’ve spoken with Dan several times through these last few days and as expected he has expressed many emotions. Through it all his spirit and determination have been unwavering. He understands like many of us that there are kids all over this country that need our help. This battle is about right and wrong, make no mistake about it. We will make this happen. Si Se Puede!
