West Boyd

O’Neill was defeated in two sets by West Boyd in the final volleyball match of the season. Scoring was 25-18 and 25-16 in favor of the Spartans. Leading scorers for the 7th grade girls were Natalie Brodersen (5 pts/3 aces), Brandi Taylor (4 pts), Rahtaya Young (3 pts/1 ace), Tiffany Finkral (3 pts/2 aces), and Ariel Lichty (1 pt/1 ace). The Eagle 7th graders showed a great amount of progress throughout the season and are eager to try their talents at the winter junior high basketball season.

West Holt Tournament

The O’Neill Jr. High volleyball teams both took home runner-up trophies from the West Holt Junior High Tournament on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

O’Neill defeated Valentine, then lost to North Central in the 7th grade division, while in the 8th grade bracket, O’Neill beat West Holt, then lost to Valentine.

Statistics from the 7th grade games include sets of 28-26, 24-26, and 15-7 against Valentine and scores of 22-25 and 23-25 versus North Central. “All sets were hard-fought and included great set-ups and volleys with the girls displaying much improvement since the beginning of the season,” commented Coach Morrow.

7th grade girls scoring serving points for the weekend tournament include:
Hannah Zeeb (13), Ariel Lichty (11), Alejandra Vergara (8), Natalie Brodersen (6), Brandi Taylor (6), Rahtaya Young (4), Arianna Dugan (2), Shelby Jennings (1).

The last volleyball match for the O’Neill Junior High Season will be Monday, October 19, at Spencer versus West Boyd.

Ewing

The 7th grade team faced a strong serving Ewing Jr.High team on Thursday, Oct. 8. In Set 3 the girls started to turn it on a little and scored 13 points, but were clearly outmatched by the Tigers. Brandi Taylor led all servers with 3 points, while Rahtaya Young added 2.

West Holt

O’Neill Junior High volleyball traveled to West Holt in 7th and 8th grade match-ups on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Hannah Zeeb led 7th grade servers with 5 poitns- 3 of which were aces. Brandi Mikkelsen served for 4 points with 1 ace. Shelby Jennings added 2 aces and Brandi Taylor 1 ace to the Eagle cause. The West Holt Huskies came up victorious, however, in 2 sets of same scoring: 25-18.

Stuart

O’Neill 7th graders traveled to Stuart to play two games against the Stuart 7th-8th grade combined team. In the first match, Stuart defeated O’Neill in sets of 25-12 and 25-13. In the second match it took Stuart 3 sets to beat O’Neill- with scores of 18-25, 25-11, and 25-17. Playing against girls a year older can always prove challenging, but the 7th graders rose to the occasion with some great set-ups and volleys. Many different athletes exhibited their skills on the court, including serving by the following: Hannah Zeeb- 6 points, Ariel Lichty, Natalie Brodersen, and Rahtaya Young- each with 5 points, Danielle Isom- 4 pts., and Alejandra Vergara - 3 points.
