The Sarana Children’s Home is located in Uhana, just outside of Ampara in Sri Lanka’s Eastern District. Although Sri Lanka refers to all institutional homes as ‘children’s homes’, Sarana is home to over 25 people of all ages. Most of the residents have some form of disability. The Dutch-Lanka Friendship Foundation (DLFF) has been working at Sarana since 2005 and has completed major renovations to the home, water and sanitation systems. DLFF also provides funding for additional staff and teachers, as well as medical and dental treatment for the residents. DLFF also provides a full-time onsite program coordinator to oversee all foundation activities.
