Mike Barter
I just want to say thank you to those who have generously made a donation to the Mike Barter video series. It is with your help that I can find the time and motivation to continue making these videos. Any and all donations go directly to the production of new videos. After all this is a one person out of pocket adventure in new media. This is where the audience can donate to a cause if they feel they are getting value from the product.
So whats new with the Mike barter climbing videos. For one thing we are now moving all of the videos on climbing over to itunes. This means that you can now download the training videos onto your ipod and take them to the climbing gym. We will be to shooting more exercise videos to sharpen your mountain/cragging rescue skills. Other locations the videos can be found are blip.tv and vimeo.com. For those of you in the U.S.A. we are now found on Boxee, Roku and Tivo. Of course we still have the youtube channel that got the ball rolling. I still have a real fondness for the youtube

Many of the early videos are in the process of being re-shot in hi-definition. Back when we started this stuff hi-8 tape was the best option a pro-consumer had in the mid 90’s. Today our main staging camera is the panasonic AGHVX200. Audio is assisted by a Sennheiser ew-100 lav mic kit and Audio-technica shotgun mic. Add to that a lowell 4 lamp light kit and a 12’ X 10’ green screen and we have a decent recording set up.
All editing is done in Final Cut Pro on a 27” imac with a 20” apple Cine display as a second screen.

Future holds a complete series on avalanche safety and science. Ski mountaineering is also on the plate. Before we start those subjects however I am planning a six month RV road trip down the west coast stopping at your local climbing areas and big walls. We have yet to touch big wall aid climbing and there are still a couple holes in the sport climbing series.
