Deb and I served our first crepe on a borrowed iron at the Hollywood Farmers’ Marketin May ’06. Now in our 4th season, we use four crepe irons to keep up with the demand.

We feel really fortunate to be part of such an important, nurturing, festive event. The music, the wide variety of organic fruit, vegetables and herbs, honey, cheeses, flowers, having so many colors and flavors within reach as ingredients for both sweet and savory crepes!

The menu varies with what the farmers have on hand. Our most popular summer sweetness is fresh strawberries with homemade whipped cream. In the fall our apple spice and pumpkin pie crepes are the hot ticket along with the featured special of poached pears, gorganzola, and roasted hazelnuts. Yum.

It’s nice to hear our customers reminisce about the streets of Paris while they watch me spin their crepes, but we aren’t attempting to be authentically French with our menu (thus the ‘y’ in crepery). The French have such delicate crepes—we’re very much American in that we pile on the goodness. We also have culinary delights from other cultures such as the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and the Kichari with Raita.

I first got the idea to start a crepery in the mid-90s when I lived in LA and frequented that Hollywood Farmers’ Market. I was impressed and inspired watching Sylvia spin crepes (by herself!) every Saturday. I’m forever thankful to Sylvia for planting the seed. It’s what kept me sane in LA and has offered creativity and community here in Portland.

Now in our 4th season, it takes a small village to meet the demand. Aileen takes orders and entertains while our customers watch Deb and me spin crepes.

We will sorely miss our friend, Syd (pictured with the 'A-team' last season) as she will be opening her imported kitchenwares shop, DeLuna's, on N. Mississippi. (l-r): Deb, Aileen, Syd, Meg

We look forward to being back in the action and being reunited with our dedicated regulars. We also look forward to our second season at Moreland Farmers’ Market, Wednesdays, 3:30-7:30.

Last year we built a mobile cart to have available for local events such as City Repair’s Earth Day, Lights On Broadway, Mulch in the Gulch and Furever Pets Holiday Party. Special thanks to Glen Ford for your solid carpentry and to Ken and Aurora at Evergreen Machine Works for your expert input, patience and enthusiasm.

This season we are fully mobile with our ’57 International panel truck that we will be taking to local events. Thanks to Bob Turton and Bruce Almighty for all the tedious assembly and willingness to take it on. I highly recommend them for all your auto needs: Turton’s Auto Repair 46th/NE Killingsworth.

We’d also like to thank our neighbors in Sullivans Gulch for their support. Thank you Vic for your expert advice and Louise for always being there to help - with scars to prove it! Thanks to Annie for tips on the perfect batter. Thanks, Dad, for the design ideas. And finally to Steven Hall, it was fun designing this site with you.

For crepes sake, I’ve said enough. See you next Spring!
