Recently Gangjin, Korea made an arrangement with us to develop a series of tours for them. They are celebrating their millennium years by touring Japan (2007), the USA (2008) and Europe (2009). This amazing opportunity provides so many possibilities that we are featuring Gangjin, Korea (“the finest celadon under heaven”) on our home page and planning spectacular tours to Korea.
We will visit many of Korea’s more important arts and culture areas including Gangjin.
Our tours will take participants into the heart of Korea’s rich culture often beyond ceramics. We are distinguished from other Korean tours because we visit people as much as places. On our many trips to Korea, we have come to know many people in the arts including Human Cultural Treasures as well as other excellent artists from many fields of art. We want you to meet them in their studios. Some of these visits are by special invitation to Morning Earth.
In late April and early May 2009 Korea’s culture will reach an amazing crescendo. So many exciting events are happening together it is as though Korea’s cultural stars are coming into alignment. The beautiful and spiritual Lotus Lantern Festival shown above is just one of the highlights of that tour. Turn to the 2009 tours page to learn more.
In August there is a very special opportunity for ceramic artists. Gangjin will be jurying for their International Ceramic Artist Exhibit. Accepted artists will also participate in a ceramic workshop provided by distinguished ceramic artists. We are planning a tour associated with those events. This particular tour will be partly subsidized by Gangjin, Morning Earth Tours and US Travel. If you are a ceramic artist, you should not miss this opportunity. Visit the Gangjin Exhibit site for more information.
The arrangement with Gangjin is exclusive to Morning Earth. All of our tour prices range significantly below other tours and those do not visit with distinguished artists personally. We have hosted a number of tours to Korea, Gangjin liked what they saw and approached us with this exclusive offer.
Visit our new web site MorningEarthTours.com. You can watch it in development at Morning Earth Tours. You may also want to, visit our Morning Earth Tour blog at Tour Korea 2009. It contains some references from earlier tour participants.

You may be surprised that this is not a typical pottery web site. Morning Earth is at once a pottery, workshop provider, educational resource, tour designer, promoter of Korean Arts and Culture and tool manufacturer through our sister company Dragon Claw Tools. You will find pages or links to each of these things and more on this site.
The site will continue to grow so we hope that you will visit here often. We also hope that you will purchase our ceramic work.
We have more than 50 years of experience in ceramics. In addition to producing work, many of those years were spent researching Asian and in particular Korean ceramics. Because of this and our teaching backgrounds, we have evolved to become what you find on this website.

The Lotus Lantern Festival is not the only Korean festival that has lanterns. Here hugh lanterns, in the shape of Gangjin ceramic vessels line the streets of the 2007 Gangjin Festival. The Gangjin Festival is now held in late July and early August. Join one of our tours to witness this spectacular event.
