It was not just a hands-on superficial clay workshop, but a true immersion into culture and clay as an art form.
The techniques taught are not shown in college classes. Those techniques are usually harder and don’t allow you to succeed like the Korean techniques do.
Everything I learned could be applied in a classroom.
I learned more about hand building in three hours from the Parks than in four years as a ceramic major at . . . (a prestigious ceramics university).
The Korean Ceramics Project fuses a spiritual perspective of clay with a rewarding hand-on experience that will satisfy the novice as well as the experienced potter. It offers an inspiring and motivating atmosphere that re-invigorates one’s love for this craft.
The Korean Ceramics Workshop was a comprehensive study of Korean history, art history, culture and tradition which was inspiring when related to what could be done with children in a classroom. As an artist, I was awe-struck by the Korean ceramists and their dedication to traditions and their life-work. I feel as if I was allowed to peek into another culture and learn from its people.
This was a very exciting workshop!
