Workshops

Page 2

We basically have three types of workshops.

          1.  Hand Forming and Decorating

          2.  Throwing with the “Eye of the Clay”  and

          3.  Visiting Korean Ceramic Artists

Typically a hand building / decorating workshop lasts for two days often with an evening of slides and video prior to the workshop at no additional cost.  The slides-video evening is often open to the public.  There are many other options.

Wheel forming workshops are available only to those with some prior “throwing” experience and who have attended one of our hand building / decorating workshops .

Week long or longer workshops that include hand forming, decorating and throwing with the “Eye of the Clay” are possible.

Workshops with visiting Korean ceramic artists can be arranged either by making arrangements to bring them to your country or by placing your name of a list and waiting until they come to your country.  Sometimes multiple workshops can be arranged sharing the costs.

To Summarize:

Visiting Korean Ceramic Artists

We have visited Korea more than 20 times conducting research on Korean ceramic practices.    In the process we have come to know many of Koreas finest ceramic artists.   From time to time they travel abroad visiting NCECA, to exhibit at SOFA or elsewhere or for many other reasons.  Since we are in contact with many of them on a regular basis, we often know months ahead of their travels that they are coming and where they are going.   We can help you arrange workshops with these Korean ceramic artists when they visit your country.   Just contact us with your proposal and we’ll ask them if they are interested in presenting a workshop.  This would save you much of the transportation costs.

These workshops can be arranged by prior agreement, in which case you would also pay all their transportation costs or share those costs with others who would also like a workshop.

To take advantage of these opportunities, simply ask us to place you on the waiting list and to contact you when a Korean ceramic artist is planning a trip to your country.   We will also inform you of pending workshops in your country should you not want to host one.

Please be patient.  Although Korean ceramic artists often travel, their time abroad is sometimes very limited.  That said, we have helped more than fifteen Korean ceramic artists present workshops during their travels.

We provide a considerable amount of educational materials at our workshops.   These materials are nearly equal in value to the price of our workshops.  Visit our “Materials” page for more information.

Workshop participants receive a discount on any of our Korean ceramic tours to Korea.

To discuss a workshop proposal, please contact us by phone at 1- 586-980-0097.   Leave your phone number and give us a time of day that is best for us to call you.  Alternatively, we can correspond by e-mail.
