Ceramic Artist Tour

JICAS Ex95

Gangjin Celadon Festival Exhibit and Workshop

This tour is an exclusive tour open only to those international ceramic artists who have been juried into the Gangjin International Ceramic Artist’s Exhibit and Workshop to take place during the Gangjin Celadon Festival.
This tour is partially subsidized by Gangjin, Korea.
An optional tour to YiXing, China where you will meet with some of China’s best teapot artists is also available.
Are you looking for a ceramic tour for summer 2010 but are not sure that you will qualify for this tour? Contact us to discuss other options.

JICAS Ex95 is an optional tour partly subsidized by Gangjin, US Travel and Morning Earth Tours.  Essentially it will travel to other significant ceramic areas of Korea to meet several of Korea’s Human Cultural Treasures in ceramics and other significant Korean ceramic artists.  Among the cities we will visit are Gyeongju, the ancient capitol of Korea,  Ulsan, the site of OEUK 2010 onggi village, Mungyeong one of Korea’s most important 1000 year old tea bowl villages, Yeoju and Icheon ceramic cities featured in the World Ceramic Exposition and Seoul.  We will not neglect important museums or historical sites but our focus is to give the international ceramic artists a more in-depth experience with Korean ceramics at a very reasonable price.  Itinerary and cost is still pending.  However, with the subsidizing of costs it will be inexpensive.  Another optional under consideration  is to extend this tour to China where we will visit YiXing teapot masters.

Morning Earth Pottery has agreed to act as Gangjin’s agent or conduit for the exhibit and related events.  While we are not part of the jurying process, inquiries and applications should be sent to us at MorningEarth@SBCGlobal.Net.

Tour Cost Estimate:

You deserve some kind of estimate on the costs you would incur on the International Ceramic Artist’s tour.

It is impossible to be precise because we don’t know what the KRW will be worth vs the USD or how many will be traveling.  Transportation is a big part of any tour.  The more on the tour the lower the price.

My best guess is the tour, including the China extension, would run around $125 USD per day.  Compare this price to $350 per day.  This is based on double occupancy with most meals included and your own bus - no hidden costs.  As stated, the tour is partially subsidized.  You will stay in good hotels.  Again, you are responsible for your own airfare and for transporting your work to and from the exhibit.  There may be purchase awards.

More detailed information and a better guess at the price will come after we know how many will go on the tour.  Please register to be kept informed as things develop.
