Red Shino Modified

This red teabowl is a classic and another of my favorite bowls. It is a classic in size, shape and feel according to Korean standards. It has the warmth of a sunset on a cool spring evening, and it reminds me of cirrocumulus clouds lit by the setting sun. For me its size, appearance and feel are perfect for everyday tea. It is truly one of a kind.
Thrown on a slow wheel, it moves in its stillness. Its color complements the macha. This bowl is particularly comfortable to hold.
The unusual coloring comes from the use of iron following an ancient Japanese teabowl master’s tradition. It was glazed, using personal glazing techniques, with a classic shino glaze and fired in a gas flame.
