“Surely there are hallowed memories clustering around the once sacred edifice that will interpose before further desecration is permitted,” opined Mr. B. Chambers in the Mifflinburg Telegraph in 1919. He was distraught upon hearing about the condition and treatment of the Old Elias Church. Early in Mifflinburg’s history this building was the most important building in town. For fifty-one years our town’s citizens worshiped, were baptized, were married and were memorialized before being buried in the adjoining cemetery and from 1857 to 1876 kids congregated there to go to school. We are happy to report to Mr. Chambers that the Elias Church has been saved!
