Biggsy’s Place

Life’s journey began a new turn for me at the end of 2003.  Facing huge life decisions in several areas, I would eventually walk away from a stable and successful 15-year career in sports management to answer what I believed was a call to write and serve the visions of others while setting aside my own.

A dream job in sports had me crossing paths with the likes of Barry Sanders and Walter Payton; led me to opportunities managing PR and media needs for the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard, John Daly, Shane Matthews (NFL), Steve Everitt (NFL); and part-time work with business associates for NHL players such as Mike Modano, Marty Turco, Brenden Morrow and Derian Hatcher.

It was a very difficult life to leave.

The purpose in stepping away to author a book was not to share tales of adventure in the business world of professional sports (which many encouraged me to do), but to discover a light that had been present throughout my entire life.  That light would be my older and physically-challenged sister Kathy.

“Cottage 12 — Two Paths Toward One Heart; One Given…the Other Discovered” was released in January 2009 through Wasteland Creative and Heinlein Publishing.  A distribution deal with SEI Distribution was reached via Heinlein Publishing at the end of 2009.

The publishing world is undergoing the same kind of digital shift the music industry has experienced and all involved are trying to navigate the changing landscape.  I’m pleased to have a team behind me with experience and proper focus on moving forward with how books and writings will “get out there” in the digital age.  It takes longer, but that’s the only direction to choose.

Career-wise since leaving sports for a three-year “sabbatical,” the journey has led to various efforts at various times to pay necessary bills and maintain time freedom and flexibility.  Entering 2010, I feel a major and difficult part of the journey is over — that of reckless and blind faith to follow wherever it “seems” God has led me with no safety net and at much sacrifice.

A new one is hopefully beginning that will marry together my life and passions of old with the new faith I discovered by stepping away from security.
