Michael Okuda‘s passion for real-life space exploration has led him to work with the folks at NASA, providing emblems and graphics for Mission Control, Project Constellation, the new Orion spacecraft, and other programs. He worked with the crew of Space Shuttle Atlantis to design their mission patch for STS-125, the final Hubble Space Telescope servicing flight. He also designed the patch for the recent Ares I-X Development Flight Test for Project Constellation.
Mike may be best known for his futuristic control panels and other graphic designs for the Starships Enterprise in several of the Star Trek films and series. He was a producer for visual effects on the remastered original Star Trek series and served as a technical consultant to the Trek writing staff. His other film and television work includes Lie to Me, Threshold, The West Wing, and the recent Matt Damon feature film, The Informant!
Mike is the recipient of NASA’s Exceptional Public Service Medal and his work has been recognized with three primetime Emmy nominations for Best Visual Effects. He holds a BA in communications from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa and is a member of the Art Directors Guild, the Visual Effects Society, the Planetary Society, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Mike lives in Los Angeles, along with his wife Denise, with whom he co-authored several Star Trek books.
