The Center for School-Based Youth Development is a community of researchers devoted to developing a better understanding of the role of school engagement as a protective force in children's lives and that promotes academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being. The Center was formed in 2002 through the Gevirtz Funds for Excellence through the generosity of the Ambassador Don Gevirtz and his wife Marilyn Gevirtz

Mission. The Center’s mission is engage in research that better informs educators how to enhance school engagement and thereby promote all students’ social and academic competence. Over the past two years, the Center has recruited and funded postdoctoral scholars for training experiences and to promote the mission of the Center through grant preparation, project evaluation, community networking, conference presentations, and manuscript preparation.
