When looking how to backup OS X leopard it seemed that apple’s backup software “time machine” will only backup to apple’s wireless hard drive “time capsule.”. As all my other machines (Windows) backup to an external hard drive connected to a windows server. I was very disappointed that I needed to buy an apple hard drive to do a backup.
Searching the internet I found a great post on how to get time machine to see a windows share. Check out Hupio’s Weblog on how to config OS X to see a windows (or samba) share.
In my opinion apple needs to play better with windows if they want to continue to grow. My mac is the first in the house and it needs to be able to play with my other desktops and servers.
Time machine seems pretty slick, it made a full backup of the mac on a windows share with my other computers backups made with acronis.
