Matt Haslett grew up in a small town outside of Philadelphia, but his music spans the globe and extends beyond the yellow house in which he grew up. Classically trained, Haslett fell in love with music at a young age, but when he picked up the guitar he began to explore his own voice.
The Canyon, his debut album, combined plucky and melodic guitar riffs with meaningful lyrics and harmonies. It was not just the music itself that lifted us to a very clear place where Haslett's inspiration grew, but each new chorus left us wanting to hear more. As the music unfolds, Matt layers himself into the words allowing us to hear the words, and still flow with the rhythm. Haslett left the east coast for sunny L.A. and it's evident that the journey brought a sense of struggle. He is not afraid to incorporate new instruments or voice layering to deepen the impact of the tracks. The Canyon represents Matt's struggle in the chaos of L.A. while grasping firmly to the soft country & blue grass roots with which he grew up.
But cross the Rocky Mountains and Matt's music reaches new elevation. With tracks like Angel and Steal her Heart, Matt pulls us deeper to his heart where the combination of his classic style is paired with the quiet of the mountain air that resonates in each new chorus. It's the flow on this developing new album that seems so much more natural, perhaps Haslett has found some quietude in Colorado. And now the reflection in his voice is a sign of his growth and he seems to have reached a new rocky mountain high.
