Dean Gibbons and the Knowledge of Death
An important new work-in-progress by Matt Rudkin and Silvia Mercuriali
A darkly comic meditation on the claims of evolutionary psychology, this social-science-fiction meanders through musings on racism, snobbery, the instinctual thirst for status and the function of the unconscious. This two-person show weaves these themes into the story of the discovery of a gifted species of monkey, and the increasingly desperate attempts of its keeper to spread word of its remarkable powers to a disinterested world galloping towards catastrophe.
