These are some frequently asked question regarding my improvisation:

Q1. What is free improvisation for you? A means for intercomunication?
Yes, in three ways, I think. (1)With the person I am playing with in a
performance. (2) With myself, by listening to my own playing. (3) With
the audience-I might aim someone specific to play FOR.

Q2. A musical style?
Yes, although the "style" comes out naturally through one's music. I
think one's "style" is frequently labeled by others (such as critics).
I don't purposely try to form a "style" by improvising.

Q3. A therapy?
Yes. Ever since I found myself to be able to improvise, it has served
SOMETIMES to be therapudic and relaxing. It feels as if it frees me
from emotional & physical constrains I am experiencing. However, it can
be distressing when I find myself in a company of players who don't
communicate very well.

Q4. A way of extend perception?
Yes, relating to the previous question, I find it astonishing to hear
myself playing something that I never dreamed of. It seems to come from
an unconscious perception that otherwise I wouldn't notice. This is
difficult to explain.

Q5. Do you rehearse improvisation?
I do some rehearsing if it involves interactive computer systems. For acoustic instrument only I never rehearse improvisation.

Q6. How has electronic music affected your relationship to acoustic instruments?
This is truly an amazing experience. With interactive computer systems, I come to explore and discover completely different sets of sounds and sonic environment that are otherwise difficult to even imagine. I am more tuned to sounds in general and the production of acoustic instruments as well.
