I am so proud of my sister Midge and her husband Scott. After fostering a couple groups of siblings, they went to court today and adopted two beautiful girls named Lani (the soulful one being held by Scott) and Jessica (the talker - being held by Midge.) They have been fostering the girls for about nine months now (apropos?) and when no family came forward, they decided to add to their family. Courtie couldn’t be happier to have two little sisters (and at age 15, you would think otherwise.)

My Mom and I flew in for the weekend for the big day. I surprised them on Friday night and came in with my mom. We arrived to the court on Saturday morning, greeted by tons of peppy volunteers who walked us up the balloon-lined corridors of the juvenile court building. There were family photos taken, and teddy bears to be given. Each girl got a “dog-tag” with their new names engraved and Midge was given a yellow rose. There were snacks and drinks afterwards, and constant cheers of congratulations. Over 60 children were adopted today. It was an emotional and heartfelt experience. I could not be happier for them. Don’t the five of them make a nice family?

I have never been so hopeful. After eight LONG years of W, a war that has cost us lives and money, an economy that is in the dumpster, a world image that is tarnished and damaged......I look forward to the future. I was up early and off to the polls first thing, dressed in my Obama “Hope” t-shirt and my “Vote NO on 8” sticker. Please join me in voting for CHANGE!

"No one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another. Because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality." - Brad Pitt

It is one day before the election. One day before this great country of ours may make history. It is my hope that we will elect Barack Obama our President. But another very important item is being decided tomorrow in California. California Proposition 8. An amendment to our State Constitution that will deny equality to gays like me.

As you go to the polls Tuesday, consider what Prop 8 does:

Prop 8 takes away rights that are currently in our State Constitution.
Prop 8 discriminates against members of our families, friends and co-workers.
Prop 8 is hateful and divisive.
Prop 8 uses state law to single out one group of Californians to be treated differently.
Prop 8 denies and takes away my right to marry the one I love.....(yes, I need to find him first....that's not the point)

Consider what Prop 8 does NOT do:

Prop 8 does not require same sex marriage to be taught in school.
Prop 8 does not make the church recognize a marriage that does not fall in line with it's teachings.
Prop 8 does not force anyone who does not agree with same sex marriage to approve of it. But voting "NO" does allow me my right to live my own life with dignity and equality.

Read the text. Here it is:

SEC. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

That's it. No talk of schools or curriculum. No talk of what the church must believe or teach. No talk of forcing any belief upon another.

What that one, small, short sentence does do is change our constitution to discriminate against me and millions of other Californians. There is a long list of politicians from both sides of the aisle, and celebrities, and everyday Americans who oppose Prop 8. Some are:

President Bill Clinton says NO on Prop 8
Governor Schwarzenegger says NO on Prop 8
Senator Obama says NO on Prop 8
Senator Diane Feinstein says NO on Prop 8
The founders and CEOs of Google, Yahoo!, Adobe Systems and Cisco Systems
and a long list of celebrities including Steven Spielberg, Brad Pitt, Ellen Degeneres, Barbara Streisand, Margo Howard (Ann Landers daughter), America Ferrera, Tony Plana and Ana Ortiz, Magic Johnson, and Mary J. Blige say NO on Prop 8

Please Vote NO on Prop 8. I will respect your right to your opinion. I will respect your right to worship the way you choose. I will respect your right to live your life the way you choose.....I just ask that you do the same for me.

The polls show the vote to be VERY close. Please take a moment to send a personal note to friends, family and loved ones in California and ask them to Vote for Equality and Vote NO on Prop 8.
