The Portland Spirt

Okay, this is not a restaurant, per se, but we still got a really nice meal, so I’m including it.  This is the second to last entry in the Oregon Eateries series.  The morning we drove into Portland, we took a brunch cruise down the Columbia River.  The vessel we took was called The Portland Spirit.  Sorry about the crummy picture.  I thought my printer would scan it, but it wouldn’t, so I took a picture with my iPhone.

The concept of the cruise is simple.  The price of your ticket pays for nearly everything.  There’s a brunch buffet with a variety of the standard breakfast foods--croissants, bacon, french toast, etc.--as well as some non-standard type brunch foods.  Pasta salads, salmon lochs, mushrooms, and a meat carving station were all there.  Thee food was pretty good.  Much better than a standard buffet, but still a buffet.  There’s also a limitless supply of delicious orange juice, champagne, and sparkling cider.  In additional to that, there’s an open bar where you can purchase drinky-drinks (yes, that’s what I call booze), and there are even some musical numbers that the crew performed to welcome us and to say goodbye.

The whole event takes about two hours, and tickets are about forty bucks apiece, which is pretty fair for the endless food and the river tour.  We actually ended up going up on deck halfway through the tour to take pictures.  All in all, it’s not gourmet by any stretch, but it’s a lovely, leisurely excursion for anyone just wanting to get out while visiting Portland.  I’ve included some pictures we took during the trip for you all to see.  Like I said, the touristy-scenery portion is totally worth it!
