Did you know you can have a meal and help feed others at the same time? True story. It only took me over two years to figure it out. Yeah, I’m a bit slow, but I got there eventually. I’d heard of Second Harvest Food Bank before and I knew they served lunch, but I never went because...well...I just never thought to. Last Friday, the day I always go out to lunch, my cohort at work, Jennifer, mentioned that she was going, so I went too.
Second Harvest has a rotating menu that covers such culinary corners as Southwestern, French, Tuscan, and others. Lunch is served on Fridays between 11am and 1pm and costs $12. You may think $12 is a bit steep, but think about this: It’s an all you can eat buffet, and all of the proceeds actually go back into the Second Harvest Food Bank charity.
Jennifer and I go there before it got too busy--that place gets packed--and took a seat at one of the larger tables. It’s all family-style, so you may end up sitting next to a complete stranger. Yes, that may intimidate some of you, but not me. Hey, Jeff Fisher and the Titans sometimes go, so maybe you can end up sitting next to one of them. Panzanella Salad (Tuscan Bread-Tomato Salad) Chicken Piccata or Chicken Marsala Beef and Spinach Cannelloni Angel Hair Pasta w/ Fresh Tomato-Basil Sauce Asiago Bread Tiramisu

I got a little bit of everything. I have to confess that, going in, I expected something to the effect of spaghetti in watery sauce. Wrong! This food was excellent quality and reminded of nice dinners I would have at home, but a little fancier. Everything was good. Everything. Most especially the tiramisu. To. Die. For. Jennifer commented that some people can mess up tiramisu by soaking the ladyfingers in too much espresso, which I absolutely agree with, but this decadent dessert suffered no such abuses. It had just a little more than a hint of coffee.
Go here. I urge you. It is for such a great cause, it’s local, and it’s delicious. I can’t speak highly enough of how much I enjoyed my experience there. Just try to get there early so you can get a seat. :-)
