Lily Tung Crystal
Lily Tung Crystal is an actor/singer who has performed in San Francisco, New York, and Shanghai. In June she was named a 2009 Titan Award winner by Theatre Bay Area, making her one of five Bay Area actors to receive a $2500 grant to further their career goals.
Most recently Lily appeared with a star-studded Broadway cast in a staged reading of Jay Kuo's new musical Homeland at New World Stages in New York City. Lily first created the lead role of Mrs. Park when Homeland debuted at San Francisco's Magic Theatre in 2006. Look out for more readings of Homeland throughout 2009 (www.homelandmusical.com).
Earlier this year, Lily appeared in Oni Faida Lampley's new play Tough Titty, also at the Magic, and read opposite George Takei in Kuo's upcoming musical Allegiance for the San Francisco New Theatre Workshop Fundraiser.
Lily has performed with other theatre companies in San Francisco, New York and Shanghai, including SF Playhouse, Broadway by the Bay, Woodminster Amphitheatre, Women’s Project Theatre, The New Group, Mountain Play, Custom Made Theatre, Emerald Rain Productions, and Studio American Conservatory Theatre.
Favorite shows include: Private Lives (Amanda), The Rise and Fall of the Bald Empire (Ying Niang; world premiere), Grease (Rizzo), Cabaret (Lulu), More Than Petticoats (Tye Leung Schulze; world premiere), Young Zombies in Love (The Very Old Zombie), and the musical revue Shopping.
Lily is a graduate of the Theatre Artists Institute at American Musical Theatre of San Jose. She is represented by JE Talent (www.jetalent.com). When she’s not on stage, Lily is an arts journalist, communications trainer, and TV news producer. She serves on the board of the National Arts Journalism Program (NAJP) and contributes to the NAJP blog ARTicles (www.najp.org/articles). She is also a board member of the ACT Alumni Association. Lily is married to Eric Crystal, the Bay Area jazz saxophonist (www.ericcrystal.com).
