Lane PTA Education Programs
The Lane PTA coordinates several after-school programs to enrich our students’ education and is overseen by the VP of Education. Each program is headed by a chairperson. (Select the chairpersons name to contact them)
Below is a list of the current/ pending programs remaining for the 2009 - 2010 school year. (If you can assist with any of the clubs and/ or classes or for more information, please contact the chairperson(s). Chess Club

Clowning Around Class (Students in Grades 4 thru 6)
Instructor(s): Ms. Schadle
In “Clowning Around” students will learn the many aspects of being a clown such as: How to design a costume and pick a clown name, Face painting, Magic Tricks, Balloon Animals, And MORE!
Cost: $80
Schedule: Thursdays, January 21 - March 11 from 4-5pm in classroom #108.
Cultural Art Programs (CAPs)
Chairperson(s): Michelle Khoury
Each year, the PTA provides funds to hire a variety of artists to perform assemblies for students. These events filled with music, stories, and humor supplement and extend classroom learning and SOL standards in many subject areas, including language arts, social studies, science, math, music, and drama.
Storyteller Gary Lloyd comes to Lane April 15, 2010.

GEMS Club (Girls in Grades 3 thru 6)

What is GEMS? GEMS, Girls Excelling in Math & Science, is a club that’s going to inspire you to really love and have fun with math and science!
Here are some of the things we’re going to do:
•Science labs
•Brain twisting puzzles
•Build structures
•Meet some interesting women who do these things for a living
Cost: $5
Schedule: Wednesdays, January 20 - March 10 from 4-5pm in Mrs. Ambrose’s Strategy Lab.

Lacrosse Clinic (Coed)

The Lane PTA in conjunction with Springfield Youth Club is holding a lacrosse clinic for students in grades 4-6. Students will learn basic lacrosse skills in a non-contact environment.

Lions on the Run
Chairperson(s): Krista Kamper, Maria Kramer
(VOLUNTEERS(S) NEEDED TO RUN SPRING SESSION)
This program is open to students in all grade levels who enjoy sports, active play and those who would like to become more active. Each class will feature healthy nutrition information along with fun activities. Students will participate in such activities as scavenger hunts, relays, obstacle courses and fitness games.

Basketball Clinic (Girls Only) - see pictures

The Lane PTA is excited to announce that the players and staff of the Lady Hayfield Hawks basketball team are going to lead a basketball clinic for Lane girls in grades 3-6. This program will work on basketball skills and rules of play in a fun environment. For Fall 2009 the girls basketball clinic will meet Tuesdays September 22- November 17 from 4-5pm in the Lane gym. There is no clinic on Tues Nov 3 due to the student holiday.
Collage Class (Students in Grades 4 thru 6) - CANCELED
Instructor(s): Ms. Santala
Collage is making and using different types materials to make colorful designs out of paper. Students will explore ways to layer paper to create abstract and realistic designs.
Cost: $80
Schedule: Tuesdays, January 19 - March 9 from 4-5pm in classroom # 218.
The Joy of Cooking - see pictures

Instructor: Laura Jacobs
Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades are invited to join an 8 week after-school cooking class with Mrs. Jacob where they will learn basic cooking skills and make delicious recipes. Cost: $80

PrintMania - see pictures

Instructor: Libya Doman
Students will print with magic sponges, glued collages, Styrofoam plates, and raised surfaces while exploring portraits, landscapes, designs and abstracts. Printmania is opened to students in grades 1-3.
Cost: $80
Schedule: Thursdays October 22- December 17 from 4-5pm
