Moving the Blog, Beginning a new effort...

It has been since August since I have written here. This bears testimony to the reality that I am simply not pursuing photography to the degree I was. Perhaps this is due to lack of request or diminishing ability to be original. Either way I am shutting this photo blog down and moving in a different direction.

It has been my experience recently that writing has aided in my development of thought. It has also been my experience that the sharing of some of those writings somehow brings a completion to the expression of thought, not to mention that sharing often provides a motivating factor. So my focus has changed considerably to writing and sharing. With this aim I have developed a platform for these tasks. This can be found at http://kyleplattner.com/blog

I recognize that it may seem silly but I trust that even if nobody sees anything I write it will at least provided provocation for me to write and be aware of contemporary dialogues.

If I shoot anything worth sharing I will still post the images on the new blog so this site has run its course. I will leave it up for another week or so but eventually I will delete it.

I finally got a page together for ordering the book. Above is a crop of one of the pages. Here is the description I wrote for my website:

This book has been the culmination of the last few years of trying to experience and value people. This book is a collection of images and quotes compiled for the expressed purpose of provoking you to consider what you value. I hope that this book can offer you a heart that loves and lives in a way that values the invaluable. Life. Others.

This "Offer of the Heart" project centers around the homeless and those in need. My goal is to redirect our hearts through the process of perception away from ourselves and onto things that perhaps are uncomfortable but worthy of our value.

Book Completed

I finally completed my book project. I sent off the draft to be printed a couple days ago and it arrived today. It is nearly 30 pages of images and quotes put together to make an offer to the hearts of individuals to search for what is real. My goal is to make this available and the profits will go to benefit the homeless. I am not sure how to price this yet and work out all the details, but I will figure out a way to open this up for ordering. If you are interested just send me an email and I will contact you when I am ready to do a mass printing.

It has been a long time since I have had anything substantial to post up here, but such is life. Last Monday I had the opportunity to shoot Kristen and David. We had a lot of fun and they took me to some places I never knew were in Peoria. These are the first bit of the images I have done for them.

As a side note I am still working on my image book and hope to be done before August.

My friend, Johnna Bockover, suggested that I share about her recent photo contest. So along with sharing the link to her site I thought I would pass along some more links for your exploration. Johnna owns a 501c3 non-profit organization that tries to put cameras into the hands of underprivileged children as a means to bring them some of the simple joys in life that we partake so thoughtlessly. Her organization is called Star Shooter and the proceeds to her contest is going to aid her cause. She is offering up a Canon 5D Mark II to the winner. The Hagwell Group

My photo friend, David (http://www.blackolivestudios.com/), gave me a call the other day and asked if I was up for shooting. I decided to take the afternoon off and join him. We met up with a group of unique individuals known ambiguously as the Hagwell group. They provided a unique perspective very different than what I am accustomed to. The stretch took me out of my comfort box and I think myself a richer person for it. -kp

I noticed an upswing in traffic to my website and I finally found the culprit. Virb listed one of my shots on their front page. Not sure how long it will stay or if it will be there when you click through the link but for right now its sending some traffic my way. It has been a long time since I have had the opportunity to post something. I have gotten lost in the process of finishing up the semester and moving. I am working on a book though that I hope to have done by the end of this month. It will be a collection of thoughts and images that I have collected over the last several months.
