In 1983, I embarked on a wonderful journey. I was 18 years old and in my sophomore year at MICA studying Visual Communications. At the time, I had no idea of the twists and turns, and opportunities that that education would afford me.

The business that I founded out of MICA originally focused on traditional advertising, but the world was changing at breakneck speed and Brook Group evolved to keep pace. We continually ramped up our design services to answer the need for smart Web solutions and eventually became solely internet-based. We were a one-stop shop for our clients, designing, building and managing comprehensive software applications for complex organizations such as the Federal government and international financial institutions. The work was energizing, often ground breaking and always fun.

I have always believed that the only time to quit is when you’re ahead. So although it is with a great degree of sadness, I have decided to close Brook Group in order to focus on my own next chapter: http://www.waxingkara.com There are many people to thank for the successful 27 year run of the Brook Group. I am deeply grateful to all those who served at Brook Group and to all those who brought work our way. I will always treasure the memories we made together.

In 1983, I entered MICA with the intent of developing my talents as a visual artist. That goal was put on hold for 27 years while I focused on the business of running a business, but the time has come to start that journey again. Recently, I returned to my first love – making art – and am working on developing my voice as an artist through classes and the act of doing. I will continue to donate time and talent to the non-profit causes that have always been near and dear to my heart - Vision Workshops, MICA and the House Of Ruth Maryland.

A fond farewell,
Kara Brook
