| Samurai / Mifuni © 2003 Leonard Breger Samurai Series The stream of consciousness can get a bit strange when it comes to the way a theme emerges into a series of paintings. The Samurai series began with a cat that has recently come into our household. The cat had been called “Boots”, but Leonard thought this name too ordinary for such a dignified and assertive animal. As the cat walked away from him one day, Leonard observed that the cat walked like Mifune, our favorite Japanese actor in Samurai films. It was a kind of rolling, strutting amble and it inspired him to began painting an homage to Mifune the actor as a Samurai, That painting was the first in a series of Samurai paintings. Acrylic on cut-shape masonite. Actual size: 48”x 84” Product #: p10-18 |
