During our early years in Beaufort, my family (only four of us at the time) would ride through Habersham when the roads were dirt, and everyone in Beaufort was wondering how in the world a real estate development could work “out there,” 15 whole minutes from downtown Beaufort. Most of you know the rest of the story. Habersham, SC has emerged as a premier community not just in Beaufort, but nationwide. Located at the Broad River and Habersham Creek, the neighborhood of Habersham is a beautiful neo-traditional neighborhood. The developers of Habersham were inspired by coastal towns of the early 1900s, such as Beaufort, Charleston and Savannah.
We lived in Habersham for two years. It was a terrific time, but our growing family (we’ve gone from five members to eight in a short period of time) rendered our house too small, so we moved on a few years ago. I would recommend the neighborhood to anyone, though.
If you are not familiar with Habersham, you need to be. It’s the most unique neighborhood in Beaufort. The Habersham pool overlooks the Broad River, and there are more than a dozen community parks in Habersham. So although homesites are not large, there is ample green space for adults, kids, pets...whoever wants to get out and stretch their legs.
Habersham has been recognized editorially in numerous magazines, from Builder/Architect and Carolina Living Magazine, to Southern Living and Coastal Living. Habersham was even named the “Best Neighborhood Design in America” by the National Association of Homebuilders. The Habersham development team went to the nth degree to capture the coastal, turn-of-the-century feel of towns like Beaufort. For example, there are no cul-de-sacs in Habersham. There is no vinyl siding.
