Happy New Years 2011!!!!!!!!!

Our culture's beauty.

The storms bring rain.

For the generations to come.

is Over!!

Fall 2010

Fall is coming on fast. The moon will be full soon (the harvest moon). The first good rain has come and is now just passed us by leaving the rivers and creeks full. It was a nice warm rain instead of our usual cold rain. The Jump Dance resumed today (Sunday) after being postponed due to the steady rain showers.

It's time to get ready for the acorns. The salmon are coming into the river. The vegetables are ready for canning. It's a good and abundant time. I had a great bowl of acorn soup here yesterday, warm and steaming as the rain shower came down. Sitting under the tarpaulins, spooning up my xuun (acorn soup), watching the kids play about (the rain showers were southerly warm and nice), eating freshly caught and prepared salmon, it was very nice.

So Fall is upon us. It's time to prepare for the Winter months ahead. What is new to come?

I will, finally and after many road blockages, be starting the Karuk language classes. I will be focussing on the language work and will be updating the Karuk materials on this website and on the Insitute site: http://www.instituteofnativeknowledge.org. There's no simple way to create audio and video materials and load them up to the web. It's a multi-stepped process that takes time but my goal is to develop the language materials to a new level.
