One of the reasons that I don’t complain TOO loudly about working really really hard all the time, is that I really love what I do.

The other reason is that I spoil the livin’ devil out of myself by buying any and every toy that comes across my field of vision. Well, not *every* toy. I have so far resisted trading my adored iPhone in for the newest 3GS model. Mine is still under warranty, for heaven sake. (That last was a DH quote on the subject.)

But I digress. I did not say no to this silly little printer and have, in fact, been guilty of causing a couple friends to get one too. Hi, Nancy!

When a behemoth like Polaroid discontinues the very thing that made it famous, and in the process, breaks the hearts of all those Polaroid Transfer devotees, you know the powers that be have something up their sleeves besides their elbows.

They did. A new instant printing technology that uses no ink! Zero Ink.

So the new paper is called Zink. I don’t begin to understand how it works, but who cares. Miracles don’t have to come with explanations, right?

The photos are tiny, 2”x3”, borderless, and not the aspect ratio of your digital camera, so there is some cropping and also some color shift that happens. A print takes about a minute and you can print 10-11 photos on a battery charge. But, the Pogo also plugs in and you can go on printing as long as you want. The prints are not as great as from your regular inkjet printer, but from a journaler’s point of view, they are things of beauty - because how cool is it to be off working in your art journal, and be able to take and print pictures right then and there from your phone or pocket camera?!?!

Yes, I said phone. Not my iPhone (grrrr), but this printer prints wirelessly via Bluetooth from quite a long list of phones. There was a page of compatible phones on the Polaroid website, but their website seems to be malfunctioning today and the page is missing. Anyway, if your phone is not compatible, you can print from your pocket camera via a USB cable like I do.

The Polaroid Pogo Instant Printer

The perfect companion for your pocket camera

or camera phone and journal.

But here’s the coolest thing of all from the journal perspective - the prints are sticky backed - just peel and stick.

I planted three Lilac bushes in my back yard this year and wanted to record how they look now as opposed to when they turn into “trees”. So, I shot them and stuck the prints right in my journal - along with some notes about their expected size and flower color.

All done without touching the computer.

I have to say I love this silly little printer. Being an Early Adapter (otherwise known as “She who pays too much”), I thought I got a great deal at Sam’s Club last Spring for $89. I think the list price was $120 or something.

Now you can get the same thing for $49 with free shipping right here:

Polaroid Pogo Printer with a 10 Pack of Zink Paper

And while you’re at Amazon, get at least an extra

30 Pack of the Zink Paper for $9.99.

because this is a toy you will be playing with for sure. It’s addicting - like all fun art supplies.

Total not quite $60 and no Shipping Charge. Now *that* is a deal.

Yes I saw the 3 out of 5 stars on the printer and read the reviews. As usual, people looking for unrealistic results from a “toy”. And the shelf life of the unprinted Zink paper is short - 4-6 months. I’m sure that will improve as this product matures, but trust me, your paper won’t be sitting there in 4-6 months - not this pack anyway.
