Creating Collaborative Community

Today, a growing number of pastors believe partnering with other local churches is essential to accomplishing their mission. With this service, I will examine the current stage of collaborative development between your church or ministry and those of your surrounding context. Your present context may be the product of years of preparation, extensive vision casting, teaching, building team, and one-on-one meetings with key partners. However, despite many efforts, most churches and ministries do not have the necessary personnel or skills for creating collaborative community. With this service, I will map out the five-stage process of developing effective collaborative partnership including, preparation, exploration, formation, operation, and change. I will review the historical context out of which your church or ministry has emerged. I will unfold the process and action cycle of an effective partnership development.
At the completion of this service, I will present documentation of my analysis of the factors in your current stage of collaborative development. You will be given an outline with recommendation of a few immediate actions and the necessary longer term actions to be taken toward the formation of a collaborative community effort in your context.

This service, preparing a Church Missional Context Study & Mission Statement, is an intensive study, which requires a dialogue with key staff and ministry leaders. To accomplish this study, a series of interviews and one staff team discussion will be required. I will perform a brief sketch of the historical and social background of your church. I will assess the ministry gifts of the church leaders and congregation.
This service includes a cultural assessment including discussions of the need for evangelizing nominal believers, conversion of the membership to the Church, and leadership gifts necessary to engage the surrounding culture. A major portion of this study is the surrounding context of the church, the demographics, religious and cultural backgrounds, and the emerging generation.
I will present how your church may become the missionary people of God in your local and global context. I will analyze the cultural mosaics, the social mosaics and natural bridges of relationship into the surrounding community, the marketplace bridges of members, and examine the positive and negative elements of the missional orientation of your church. I will present a course for both personal development and missional development to become a missional community. I will examine the level of interchurch cooperation, independence, interdependence, and hindrances, especially as they relate to your church’s global mission.
I will explore biblical foundations and motivations for your church’s mission. I will examine how your church cooperates with the ministry gifts, the apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, teaching, and pastoral gifts of the church. I will present a course of action to assist your church, if necessary, to reach beyond autonomy. Finally, I will present a missional call to action to engage your church’s “Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria.

Qualitative Cultural Study

This service, preparing a Cultural Study of your church or ministry organization, is a qualitative research study, which requires an extensive one-on-one interviews with only six to eight key staff and ministry leaders. Using “social game theory”, I will examine the “grid,” or structure, and “group,” or participation levels of a series of dynamics of the culture of your organization or church. The analysis of the social game and ministry of your church or organization will include a minimum of eight hours of interviews with each key leader, assessing the Authority, Property, Personnel, Conflict, Worship, and Worldview games of your organization.
This study will include a summary statement of the history, the membership and leadership, and the current ministries, worship, and community lifestyles of your church or ministry. Finally, I make discuss implications for expanding ministry.

Life-Long Leadership Seminars

“A leader must do continuous, brutal self-examination to maintain clarity and balance. Power has a strong tendency to distort perception. Success also makes self-examination difficult. In studying the lives of leaders, you can identify points in their lives when they tended to lose the ability to see realistically. The leader leads toward the vision and must keep it clearly focused, while seeing the facts as they are.” (Lee & Norma Barr, PhD.) The Leadership Equation.

In the Life-Long Leadership Seminars, I lead participants through a self-reflection analysis, according to Dr. Robert Clinton’s methodology. This seminar is not only for those interested in God’s call on their life. It is also for leaders. Participants will accumulate a deep understanding of processing. They will be able to see others through developmental eyes and create experiences appropriate to each stage of development for those they serve.
Life-Long Leadership analysis includes a unique, personal TIMELINE, on which participants identify and analyze PROCESS ITEMS, including spiritual gifts, skills, and natural abilities. Participants will identify personal responses to crises and other major events in life. They will identify major principles and ministry insights derived from those events and process items. Participants will outline their personal “Narrative Capsule”, their “Social Base”, and then analyze “Boundary Processing”, “Destiny”, and “Ultimate Contribution”. The final assignment will be to draw up a mission statement with a life purpose, listing core biblical values and how they will guide the participant through their life.
This task requires typically four days, including Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, and all day Saturday.

Mission Outreach & Leadership Training

This service may be exclusively for leaders of outreaches or for the entire team prior to departure. The best outreach team preparation is part of a year-long process.

Outreach leaders understand their field project need learning tasks as part of the continuing discipleship of all participants. The preparation of your short term team’s integration into a long-term cross-cultural project requires thoughtful preparation and application of a few key principles. All of this takes time.

To prepare your group for outreach, I can offer two approaches:

LEADERS ONLY SEMINAR: Participants of this training experience will perform learning tasks to learn to design training and outreach program integrating learning tasks with evaluation process.
OUTREACH PARTICIPANTS AND LEADERS: The pre-departure Intensive Seminar is for all participants to prepare for cross-cultural, service, evangelism, and relationship building during their outreach. Working in close cooperation with the outreach team leaders, I will create several learning tasks to help build your team and prepare them to represent the kingdom of God on your mission trip.

These seminars typically require three days, including Friday evening, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
