Thailand & The Globalization of Business:
Trends, Issues and Challenges
A University of Washington
Exploration Seminar to Thailand
August 26-Sept 15, 2009
Website Updated: December 28, 2008
This 21-day Exploration Seminar to Thailand focuses on the major challenges and issues facing businesses and public organizations operating in an increasingly globalized environment. It will focus on key topics such as the history and future of globalization, the drivers, trends and implications of globalization for businesses, the geo-political dimensions of global business, economic and trading theories, global legal issues and challenges, and global strategic models. As the course will be taught primarily in Thailand, the business and socioeconomic context of this country will provide a referential framework for the class.
As an integrative “capstone” course, the seminar will also provide students with the opportunity to apply what they have already learned in their other business and economics classes, and then integrate cross-functional theories through lectures, case studies, assignments, discussions, research projects and field trips. In short, the seminar blends “theory with reality” and provides participants with a unique learning experience.
The Thailand and the Globalization of Business seminar will allow participants to learn about globalization from a focused and in-depth business perspective and is intended primarily for business and economics majors. While students from all disciplines may apply, non-business majors will need to demonstrate a keen interest in and aptitude for the business topics that will be discussed.
Upon successful completion of the seminar, UWB Business School students will earn five credits in the Business Capstone course: The Global Environment of Business (BUS 480). UW Seattle and UW Tacoma students will also earn credit but need to contact their respective departments for prior approval.
