Caleb shoveling the driveway

Caleb is growing and growing. He just turned a year and a half old. He is eager for any chance to go outside and play, regardless of which season it happens to be! He had outgrown his mittens, so I took a moment to take him with me to pick up some new ones after we had our first big snowfall of the season. So on our way home we finished shoveling the driveway while the car was parked in the street. Caleb took it upon himself to use his play shovel to imitate Daddy. We then sat on the snow throwing snow up in the air.

Shoveling the driveway is a great way to stay in touch with your neighbors. It may be the only way you get to see them in winter unless you invite them over for a meal or to watch a hockey game. And it appears it might be the new “playground” for our outdoorsy little guy.

This past Friday, the weather was perfect for doing some much needed backyard work. Caleb has been increasingly enjoying the outdoors over Spring and Summer. We found out how much he enjoyed his exploration sorties when we returned into the house and Caleb morphed into a writhing and crying mess.

The boy likes, no...LOVES being outside! The video above is a snippet of what we did the other day. Mommy got the camera when Caleb decided to crawl over to where Daddy was pulling weeds and managed to find a way to push the cart. He went on to repeat the task six times the length of our yard without breaking a sweat!

Finding His Independence

This is probably the precursor to the backyard-cart feat. Caleb isn’t able to walk on his own yet, but he likes to walk around if he is holding onto an object, or a hand. Here he is walking behind his push car. He has been crawling for a couple of months now (preferred the snake-motion form of transportation for a long while).

Nowadays, Caleb continues to explore every inch of the first floor. He has discovered the presence of the basement entrance (Daddy’s work project). A stair gate has gone up on the second floor, and we must now make sure all doors are secured with little else accessible at his height. We don’t want to completely baby-proof our home believing that Caleb must also be taught to obey and in some cases learn the hard way. Nonetheless, our surroundings have undergone some changes to prevent the little settler from injuring himself.

Caleb’s First Birthday

Since we celebrated Caleb, Grandpa, and Uncle Joel’s birthdays at Grandpa & Grandma’s on Friday, we thought it would be nice to have a picture of Caleb all dressed up in front of a birthday cake with us singing to him. I need to post the footage of the birthday celebrations at Dad and Mom’s once I find the right card.

In the meantime, here is what Caleb looks like today in his more subdued state. He must have been preparing his heart for worship. :-)

Country Music in Quebec?

You betcha! Come to find out, there is quite a bit of appreciation for country music in Quebec. You can even participate in country dancing just a couple blocks from our house on weekend nights. We’ve never gone, but judging by what we heard at the “Mardis d’Edouard” concert this particular evening, “country” in Quebec is not quite like “country” in the USA at times.
