Because of teaching meetings, we have had to adjust some of our rehearsal times for the remaining two days of band camp. We also have a very important performance on Thursday morning at the Savemart Center.

Paul “Mulligan” Lack shot a blistering 88 to capture the first place trophy, just one stroke ahead of Mike Mala”slice” at 89. John “Lack”luster shot a dismal “Paul’s age over par” score of 96. Pat “Should Probably Stick With Trumpet” Absalonson finished with 103.

Band Camp Starts Next Week! Here’s an update...

Welcome back! I hope you are all enjoying that precious bit of time in between summer school and the beginning of band camp. Here's an update on what you need to know going into band camp next week.

UNIFORM FITTING
Every member of the band and colorguard will be fit for a uniform on Monday, August 11th. It is very important that you come to the bandroom at your assigned time. The times are as follows:

Seniors: 8am-10am
Juniors: 10am-12pm
Sophomore, Junior & Senior Colorguard, 12pm-1pm
Sophomores: 1pm-3pm
Freshmen & Freshmen Colorguard: 3pm-5pm

VERY IMPORTANT: We ask that all woodwind, brass and percussion wear gym/PE shorts to your uniform fitting.

FRESHMAN NIGHT
Following uniform fitting on Monday, August 11th, we will be having a Freshmen Only Orientation/Rehearsal for all freshmen regardless of section and all student leadership. We will have dinner at 5pm (provided) and then the rehearsal & orientation from 6pm-9pm. Parents of freshmen should plan to drop your son or daughter off at the CWHS Bandroom at 3pm and pick them up at 9pm.

BAND CAMP
Rehearsal begins for everyone on Tuesday, August 12th at 1pm. We will be rehearsing from 1pm to 9pm with a dinner break from 5pm to 6pm. Students have the option of bringing their own dinner or may leave campus if they like. We will have our band camp retreat Wednesday - Friday (see below). The following week has rehearsals Monday-Thursday, including a performance at the CUSD Staff General Session Thursday morning. See the website for a more detailed band camp schedule.

BAND CAMP CHECKLIST
• Wear cool, comfortable clothes that are easy to move in. No denim shorts or jeans!
• Wear tennis/running shoes (no sandals or “skateboarding” shoes).
• Apply sunscreen before each rehearsal & reapply it throughout the day.
• Wear a hat!
• All clothing must meet CUSD dress code.
• Water is a necessity. Everyone MUST bring an insulated water jug or a Coleman brand type thermos filled with water. You may not share. Please write your name on it with permanent marker.

BAND CAMP RETREAT
New this is year is our band camp retreat. All students will be staying on campus from Wednesday @ 1pm until Friday at noon. We will be camping out in the cafeteria each night, using the west gym locker rooms, as well as rehearsing on campus. All students should plan to bring:

• Sleeping bag & Pillow
• Air Mattress or Foam padding for extra support (Optional)
• Appropriate Sleeping Attire (The A/C works quite well in the cafeteria...it may be cool)
• All personal toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, etc
• Towel for the shower
• Swimsuit for the shower
• All regular rehearsal clothing

Band Camp Retreat will conclude at noon on Friday, August 15th. We will be providing all meals during retreat, including dinner on Wednesday; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Thursday; and breakfast on Friday. We will also provide snacks throughout the retreat.

BAND CAMP FAMILY NIGHT
To celebrate all of the kids hard work at band camp, we are inviting all parents and families to join us Thursday, August 21st at 6pm at the CWHS Amphitheater in the center of campus. We ask that everyone bring their own dinner for their family, including their son or daughter, and then bring a dessert to share.

BAND CAMP RETREAT CHAPERONES

2008-2009 BAND FEES
We will be collecting payments during uniform day at band camp. You have one of two options:
1) Full $500 payment (marching band camp shirt!)
2) Pay a portion of the band fee and setup a payment plan.

Anyone selecting the payment plan option, we suggest $100 a month (August, September, October, November, December). Any other payment plans must be discussed with Mr. Lack. We will have payment plan forms available at band camp.

FALL CHAPERONES

DRUM CORPS @ EDWARDS CINEMAS
Come out Thursday, August 7th to see the live simulcast of the Drum Corps International Quarterfinals. The event begins at 3pm and will feature the top drum corps in the country. Great way to build excitement for Band Camp! Go to our website and click the link on the left for more information.
