All About Me
I went up to Walton to stay from 30 August - 6 September, 2011. During part of the time my sister came down from Ottawa. An especially memorable part of my holiday was Sunday, 4 September. Dee, Ann, Diana, Jillian, my Mother and I all went on a vinyard tour to the Valley. First of all we stopped at Belmont where they had put the finishing touches to St Matthew’s Anglican church which had been at Walton. Sky Wineries had it deconsecrated and finally floated this year up the Avon to Belmont. The girls tried out some of the wine there. We wandered about and inspected the grapes, and a very curious church across the road.
Next we went to Pete Luckett’s in the Gaspereau Valley. Everything he touches turns to gold, and his winery there is no exception. We had lunch with northerly views on a rise across the orchards and vinyards to Cape Blomidon. It was a warm, hazy day with a slight breeze. I had the large Greek salad. Pete served our table.
Afterwards we proceeded to l’Acadie wineries at Grand Pré. My friend Janusz Rosinski, the Polish architect had designed the buildings there, and it was a delightful place to visit, try some more wine and shop.
I got a second wind by the time we went to Evangeline Restaurant for their famous Nova Scotia peach pie and coffee or tea out of bone china. Ann had the butterscotch pie which had meringue about 6 inches high.
Here we parted. Diana came back with us to Walton, and Ann and Jill proceeded on to Halifax and the real world.
