The one Essential Filter
Monday, November 9, 2009
The other day I posted a sunset image from Clingmans Dome. Todays blog image was captured just before that one looking south. I was attracted to the pink clouds over the repeating ridges of the mountains. As I was pointing my camera about 90 degrees to the sun, I knew a polarizer would be very effective. For a non-polarized version see the image below. If there is one must have filter it would be a good polarizer. I’m partial to Singh-Ray as I believe they make the best.
A comment about composition... If the sky is dramatic then make your image about the sky. If the sky is boring then limit how much you include. You will notice in this image, I have chosen to make the mountain tops a minor feature as the sky was so great!
Regarding the use of a polarizer. It is NOT an on-off switch. It can be used in varying degrees. Use it judiciously and be careful to not over-polarize.
If you have taken a workshop or are planning to, you are entitled to 10% off Singh-Ray filters if you place an order 30 days prior to or after the event. Email me for details.
