”Heroes” The Music of JJ. Johnson
”Heroes” The Music of JJ. Johnson
JJ Johnson was the possibly the most influential trombonist for generations of players. His last album released in 1999 called « Heroes » shows a musician who still loved to discover new things and at the the same time plays hommage to some of his great heroes.
This new group plays compositions by and inspired by JJ Johnson, played by some excellent musicians. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Maurizio Bionda on Reeds, John Aram on Trombone and Philipp Cornaz on Vibes, play alongside a dynamic rhythm section of Sangoma Everret fom the USA and Dave Whitford from the UK.
The group is building a repertoire of music that spans several decades of Johnson’s life, including some of the film music and large ensemble works that have been arranged and re-arranged for this exciting group. Some familiar music with some unfamiliar twists make this group appealing to a wide range of Jazz audiences. Resolutely modern with a strong jazz « history » we would like to propose this project for your club.
