August 10th Tourney

Congratulations on the “2nd Place” win! And thank you to those who participated today. It was certainly a day full of excitement. There were 6 teams that participated in the tournament, and we made it to the championship game. Everyone, including our opponents, played great defensively. -But it all came down to hitting for all the teams. Way to persevere in finding those gaps and being aggressive in base running to bring in those runs!

Hey- good friends, playing ball in good weather, good food, an event shirt give-away and a well earned 2nd Place plaque on a fun filled day, you can’t complain. We will be passing along the plague to our sponsor at the WICSL championship event.

Long Season

Hello gang! 'Just wanted to say that I'm proud of you guys after playing one of the toughest teams in the league last Tuesday. You all played great defense, demonstrated good sportsmanship, and had fun despite losing. And really- it all came down to hitting. But you know what? We are well on our way. Keep up the fun in the hard work you do.

It's been a long season, and it's drawing to a close. By this time most coaches and players give up on practices. Mainly their excuses are: "Why practice when the same folks always show up for practice. -And folks that do need the practice never show up anyways. So forget it. It's not worth my time." Or they think up more excuses not to make practice not realizing how it affects the team when they knew all that was asked from the beginning of the season was a small amount of time a week. Well I'm happy to announce that I'm glad we’re NOT like that. I'm proud to see that when most of the folks are gone on emergency leave, on vacation, or at least call me to say that they are not coming -they do their very best to make up for it by setting up off-day practices. I'm also very proud to see the level of commitment you all demonstrate in making it (more importantly) fun, realizing that it's not just about the games -it's the connection during those practices, hanging out, and participating on some of the weekend tourneys. That’s what’s made it truly fun, exciting, and challenging for me this year. That’s also what’s kept me motivated and plugged in. IT'S YOU GUYS "THE K9s" THAT MAKE IT ALL WORTH WHILE FOR ME AS A TEAM MATE AND COACH. It’s why I have not given up on you guys. So thank you guys!

So true how one of your very own team-mate put it, "Stay in touch with the mindset, preparation and lessons we've learned this season and continue to support each other and we'll all get to close out this season with some way cool lifelong memories and good friendships."

We've got three games left and then the championship series. Go K9s!!!

Fajitas: 16

Good defense. Good hitting. Good being patient in the batter’s box loading up bases. Good hustling down 1st base line on those pop-ups, and in some instances getting doubles. Good pitching despite a lot of bad inconsistent calls. And most of all GREAT TEAM SPIRIT!

Keep up the good work everyone!

Some awesome highlights of the day:
Game 2, bottom of 5th: Amanda’s 3 run in-the-park home-run which sealed the score to win the game.
Jimi’s very first “during a game” home-run. Now he can stop telling me that he can never hit home-runs during a game. :)
Jeff bowing down before Stacey on second base so that she can complete her OVER Jeff -Derek Jeter in the air double play.

Wow! -Our very first win! So how does it feel?

Game 1: Esteban’s 5 to K9s 12
Game 2: Esteban’s 16 to K9s 15

Your hard work at practice and connecting with your fellow team-mates are slowly paying off. Here’s what I saw today:

Guys: Keeping hits down, ball placements, and forcing errors really earned us the RBIs we needed. Thanks for thinking of the team, not the fence.
Gals too: Way to persevere! -On your hitting, fielding, and keeping it live, down to earth and fun regardless. -Contributing too to forcing errors and the RBIs we needed as well.
Smart base running.
Backing each other up.
You’re all talking out there.
No crazy desperate throws.
Keeping in mind what the next play is.
Looking alive: staying plugged in after each play.
AND some spectacular plays. (I’ll let you guys rant about those.)

What did you guys see?

It was only a matter of time. I’m proud of you guys, and I know you guys have the potential to win more games.

Don’t get too complacent. The season is not over yet. We still have plenty of work to do. Don’t stop working hard and having fun.
