Oliver 8 weeks old
It’s been a while since I updated things on my
blog, I’ve not had much time since Oliver was born,
I often wondered what people did when they said
they didn’t have time to do things on there
computers, Now I know.
Oliver is coming on nicely he is 8 weeks and 5 days old now and weighs 3.58 kg (7.89 lbs) he is due to be weighed again tomorrow.
Here he is laying on his mummy and him laying on his play gym and below that a video of him crying.

Took Horace for his walk the other day while Louise
looked after Oliver.
I took him to usual route along the canal side and up to the lock, I decided to take him the long route back along the river side, As we were walking along the path I noticed a load of white feathers on the path I had a good look round but didn’t see anything, I walked a bit further down the path and noticed a gap in the the grass that lead down to the river this was also covered in feathers, I walked a bit further and came across another gap in the grass, I had a look and saw a dead swan I jumped down for a closer look to see if I could identify the swan, To me it looked like a one and a half year old swan, I couldn’t see any other swans about.
Today when I took Horace for his walk again I decided to go along the Greenway, when we got to the bridge I looked over at the river and saw some swans, So I cut down the side of the bridge and onto the riverside, The swans are to ones we have been feeding for the last two years and have become quite attached to them, I got to the riverside and the swans came up to me there was only 5 of the 6 cygnets they had left and the mother swan was nowhere to be seen, So it is more than likely that the dead swan was the mother swan. I looked for her tag but couldn’t find it, it was on her left leg but it isn’t there now. I will keep looking for it though.
This is them on the 4th May when we first saw them with this years cygnets.

Wednesday 20th.
I got up about 7am as I do most days, I did the usual thing of browsing the internet till Louise gets up a couple of hours later, Then we have a drink and take Horace out for a walk, At 1pm I set off to work, I’ve been doing the 2 - 10 shift for the last couple of weeks. I sent Louise a text and an email at some point in the shift and didn’t get a reply so I rang her to make sure everything was ok, Everything was fine she was at her friends house and had run out of credit, So that was ok.
When I got home from work at about 10:40 pm I noticed the bedroom light was on, I got in the house and Horace went crazy excited as he always does and Louise called down saying “prepare yourself for a shock” I said to Horace “what’s your mum been up to now she’s not done any decorating has she?” Then Louise said “My waters have broken” I replied “You’re joking aren’t you” “No” she said.
I went upstairs and sure enough she wasn’t joking! She said she had phoned the hospital and they said do not panic keep calm and get your things ready and make your way in. It took a while for it to start to sink in but as it did I started to get a bit nervous, the other day we were just talking about ringing up the to see if we could have a tour around the delivery suite and here we are now heading off to have a baby, Confused and surprised.
We got to the hospital, I can’t quite remember how things went I just remember certain things.
They did all the little tests that they have to do and examined Louise, At one point a nurse came in and said that a consultant would have to come and examine her but he was held up in triage I looked at Louise and said isn’t that something to do with horses you know the thing were they trot round in circles, She looked at me a bit confused knowing what I meant, also a nurse said something about AV Louise said to me that’s a button on your remote control isn’t it? as you can see we were both highly confused.
Thursday 21st
At about 3am we agreed that I should go home and get some rest because from what the nurses said made us think that Louise was going to be in for a couple of nights, I didn’t want to leave her but she said she would be fine, so I went home, I then got a phone call at 4:45am saying that the baby was on it’s way and could I make it back to the hospital, I jumped out of bed and drove to the hospital I got their at about 5am and went into the delivery room, There were about 3 or 4 nurses and I held Louise’s hand, The contraction were regular and she was in some pain when it was getting too much I put my arms around her to comfort her, I could see the babies head as it was coming out and it popped back in again peek a boo style, Louise was struggling with the pain and she kept saying she can’t push any more, I kept telling her she can do it I can see the babies head keep pushing, then all of a sudden the baby was on it’s way out I just saw the midwife pulling it out and as it laid on the bed at 6:11am I turned to Louise and told her it was a boy, she didn’t hear me because after a couple of minutes later she asked what we had got. I got a photo of him at about 10 seconds old.
It was a very exciting day, I can’t put into words how it feels to be their at the birth of your child, It’s just wonderful. Later on that night Louise was able to come home and we sat up and talked about the day and had a good giggle about it all, especially the triage bit because we remembered what the horse trotting thing was called dressage, We were in fits of laughter then. I did about 60 miles that day driving people to and from the hospital and we didn’t get to bed till 2am Friday morning.
Here are some more photos of that day.
Louise and Oliver we didn’t have a name for him at this point.
Me can you tell I’m happy?
Oliver with his all over tan.
Snug as a bug in a rug.
At this point we had decided on his name and both Grannies agreed too.
Uncle Darren
Uncle Dave with a tear in his eye.
Great Granny.
I’ve probably missed some bits out but my brain is still mashed, I’ve also still to ring people and tell them.
Right now I’m going to go back to the hospital, Oh yes that reminds me Oliver wasn’t due till July 2nd so he is exactly to the day 6 weeks early so he has to stay in for about 2 to 3 weeks, till he gets his strength up, he,s doing well though and the nurses are pleased with his progress, Oh and he weighed 5 pounds spot on. Ya can tell it’s a bloke writing this and not a woman can’t ya.
Right must go.

New arrivals

Over the last couple of months or so we have
noticed that the male swan we were feeding last
year was all alone and in a bit of a strop, He was
chasing anything away that was on the same patch of
river as him, We did wonder what was up with him.
Today though we found out as we were walking Horace
today we saw him and his partner and they had 6
cygnets with them, We were so pleased to see them
and I’m sure they recognise us from last year as
they came right up to us and didn’t seem too
concerned about us or Horace, We didn’t have any
bread for them today but we will take some
tomorrow. We didn’t take our cameras either so I
had to get some shots with my iPhone.
Last year they had three cygnets and only one survived we are not sure what happened to the other two, lets hope that these all survive.

We also saw a mother duck with her six chicks too.

Compost & pond

Pond
This week we are trying to get some jobs done around the house and garden, today we took some of the water out of our pond and put some fresh water in, we don’t have any kind of oxygenating things in our pond.
We have loads of snails in it and a load of some jelly stuff we think it is either snail or newt eggs we are not sure but as we have more snails than newts we think it’s more likely snail eggs.
Compost
I took a look at our compost heap and decided to turn it over as I did we saw hundreds of worms, I’ve never seem so many in one go in my life before. We decided to split the compost in to two halves, one that’s ready and one that on the go.

Raised be to a Greenhouse
31/03/09 18:16 Filed in: Garden
After I finished what I did yesterday on the raised
bed I was stood looking at it and thought it might
be a better idea to make a greenhouse instead.
So today when I got home from work I started to cut the centre pieces off that would make the doorway and the spare 2.4 mtr length I had I cut in half and used that to make 2 smaller raised beds. Now this is how it looks. Next I will get some 2 x 1” wood and make a framework around the beds and to this I will attach the fine mesh, I will also be adding a door.

Raised Bed
30/03/09 17:36 Filed in: Garden
Last week I got hold of a 2.4 mtr pallet I took the
feet off it and cut it into 3 lengths each length
had 3 slats in it, I had the idea of making a
raised bed to replace the triangular ones we had
last year. Pictured below.
With the weather being good this Sunday I decided to make a start, I started by taking apart the triangular beds.
I sawed one of the pallet lengths in half at 1.2 mtrs I then nailed a 2.4 mtr length to the short pieces (below)
It didn’t take long and as I don’t have all the bits to finish it off this was as far as I could get, My plan is to have some wooden poles in each corner that we can attach some frames that are covered in mesh to stop the slugs eating everything like they did last year.

A few Guinea fowl have turned up near where my
brother lives, I went down on Saturday to have a
look, They are quite comical to watch and spend a
bit of time walking back and forth, I managed to
get pretty close to get some photos.
On our walk today I took this photo of a duck, I quite like it.
As you can probably tell things are a little quiet on my blog not much has happened lately.

Kirklees Trees or Litter
15/03/09 13:48 Filed in: Kirklees
Took Horace for his walk on the
Greenway as we normally do on a
morning. The path splits in two and one carries on
along the canal side and the other path that is the
main part of the Greenway, we took
this path and as soon as we got up the slight hill
I said to Louise “where is the tree?” We got closer
and saw that the tree had been cut down, now I’m
not talking about a big tree but it was a tree and
a healthy one at that, only a couple of weeks ago I
took some photos of the freshly sprouting buds it
had on it and thought it would be a good idea to
photograph these regular and see them change, Well
that’s not going to happen now they have cut the
tree down.
What I can’t get my head around is why did they cut it down? it was healthy, it wasn’t a danger or in the way by any means, I just get the feeling Kirklees council just don’t give a dam, why didn’t they spend the time cleaning up the Greenway instead of chopping down healthy trees along the Greenway, Oh yes it wasn’t just one tree there where about 5 or 6 just along the short stretch we walked along, also along this stretch was a load of rubbish they could have cleared that away instead, that would have been greener than cutting healthy trees down.
The whole point of the Greenway is to get from one place to another by walking, cycling, jogging or even on dry skis, and enjoy the greenery along the way, So surely it makes more sense to clean up rubbish than it is to cut down healthy trees.
The picture here on the left is one of the trees pictured in our recent snowy weather the picture on the right are the new buds just coming through.
The tree stump and on the right the fresh buds left behind.
And just past the bridge that you can see in the background, The rubbish....
Beautiful, beats having a healthy tree any day.
An ugly tree stump and a lovely plastic bottle.

Effects
Just been trying out After Effects on a friends
computer, With this I wanted to create a dvd intro
movie for a school dvd.
I did the artwork in Illustrator first using some free vector art I found on the net, I then exported the image as a Photoshop image and imported it into After Effects, This is my first go at doing my own project from scratch, Before this I had been watching loads of tutorials on the net.

Site problems again..

So I decided to move my website to the mobile me
web space and since doing that I have had nothing
but problems, When I first uploaded my site using
Rapidweaver everything went fine but then I added
my Goldfrapp movie to the video page and then
everything went belly up, I then re did my site in
iWeb but I wasn’t happy with that and didn’t like
the way I web worked so I went back to Rapidweaver,
I deleted my site from my mobile me disk and then
re published my site, Oh before I did that I
changed the header graphic then republished the
site, Everything seemed ok except the photography
pages they didn’t load at all so I re published
again and again but I just couldn’t get them to
work, In the end I exported my site to hard disc
and tested it the photography pages still didn’t
work so I exported them separately and tested again
they work this time, I checked the rest of the site
and everything was fine so I dragged the site
folder onto my iDisk to upload, Everything works
fine except for the Goldfrapp video it just doesn’t
seem to load, I will work on that again.
It's Scantastic again..

Due to costs involved in keeping all my domains up
I have now taken the step to putting them all in
one place, So over the next few days I will be
migrating everything to my mobile me web space.
jevons.info will be the main website address and will still bring you to here. But over the next days or so you will see the Apple page for mobile me till all the routings have been sorted out, But you won’t even be reading this till it’s all done anyway.
deadwasp.co.uk will take you to the deadwasp pages where you can see some of the music videos we did in our attempt to provide a service to local bands.
millidagjev.co.uk this will soon be on this server and here you can see the silly films we made.
feathered-tiger.co.uk there is nothing on this site so that will bring you to jevons.info until I find a use for it.

Yeah it’s snowed and it’s the most snow we’ve had
for 20 years, Fantastic, I finished work at 2 came
home and we went out for a walk and a snowball
fight, Horace loved it and Louise forgot she was
pregnant for an hour. We built some little snowmen
on the bridge wall on the greenway.
It’s great when it snows like this I wish we would get it more often.

Brushes is a painting app. that simulates real life
brushes (to some degree), It’s pretty impressive in
what it can do in the right hands, So I have
decided to put up some of my images here, They are
not brilliant but if you want to see what other
smart Alecks are doing with it then go www.brushesapp.com for my

We went for our first scan today, About time too
it’s took us ages to get an appointment.
After racing round the car park for 15 minutes trying to find a parking space we eventually found one.
When we where in there we didn’t have to wait too long before we where seen.
It’s a strange feeling when you go for the first time not knowing what you will see and hoping that everything is ok,
The room was a bit smaller than I imagined it to be, I had to sit at the end of the bed with the nurse sat at the side of the bed in front of the monitor, This meant that I had a clear view of the monitor and saw everything that was going on, I did duck behind the nurse when I thought it looked like the sex of the baby was going to be revealed, So I still don’t know what we are having.
The scan showed us that Louise is 16 1/2 weeks gone and the baby is due on the 2nd July.
Attached are 2 of the scans we got.

Ooh My first post of 2009, Welcome and a Happy New
Year to you all.
So excited today we took delivery of our Angel Sounds Fetal Monitor today and heard the baby’s heartbeat for the first time, Took us about 15 mins the first time we tried and we where surprised at how clear the sound was, We then tried again after tea this time it took us a bit longer to find and it was a bit more noisy, We have recorded it here for you to listen to. The loud bumps you can hear are probably the baby moving.
I have also added this to the side bar so you can listen to it anytime.
