On this day I became an official Peace Corps Volunteer

As you look at the picture, I am on the right-hand side 2nd row from the top.

The next day I traveled to my site, Khachmaz and the weekend after I arrived - it snowed!

This first picture on the left is taken from my host family’s porch.  The next day we of course had a snowball fight.  That’s my host sister in the middle picture trying to block the oncoming assault.  Later that evening we gathered around the snowman and tree that was erected in honor of the upcoming New Year’s celebration.

One of my first projects at my work was to sort 5 tons of donated books from the United States.  The books will be distributed to 19 villages around the Xachmaz region.  Five tons of books is a LOT of books; this picture shows just some of the many piles I created while working on this project. (Please excuse the bad photo; it was the best a I had and I really wanted to show the mound of books.)

And, before I knew Christmas had arrived.  PCVs in my region gathered on the weekend following Christmas for a wonderful potluck.

Well, that’s basically the short of it.

I hope you enjoyed the brief overview.

I will aim to write more in the near future.

I always love hearing from you; please feel free to email me (jessicaja@mac.com; jesspcaz@gmail.com;), connect via facebook, or write a comment here.
