The Great Fabric Exchange

This year as Billy and I tour the country we are going to be exchanging a three song CD, Pretty Fair Miss, for a piece of fabric.

What, you ask, will I be doing with this fabric?  Well, I’ll be carrying on the work of three generations of women in my family by making a Trip Around the World Quilt.  In November, Billy and I will be heading to the John C. Campbell Folk School, where he will study woodworking and I will study with the famous North Carolina quilter Georgia Bonesteel.  So, every piece of fabric we collect will become a part of a quilt that will remind me and Billy of all of the kind people we have met and the beautiful places we have visited in 2010.  You’ll also find me hand quilting a Single Girl Quilt and hand piecing a Floating Stars Quilt on tour.

Won’t you come along and be part of our scrapbook?

See helpful hints for what kind of fabric to bring.

**** Please note: if your CD arrives cracked through the US Postal Service, please do let us know. We want you to have a copy that can play.  We do try to package them carefully, but the USPS can be hard on CDs, so it’s bound to happen once in a while!

Here’s how it works on the road and in the mail:

  1. 1. Come to a Jeni & Billy concert and bring a piece of fabric with you.  See us at the intermission or the end of the show and we will trade you old time barter style a Pretty Fair Miss CD for the fabric.

  1. 2. Can’t make it to a Jeni & Billy show!  We sure will miss you, but you don’t have to be left out of the fun, you can MAIL a piece of fabric to us at the address below.  Please include $2 ($5 for international addresses) for postage so that we can send the CD to you!

Longing for Heaven Tour –

Fabric for Music Exchange

Touring Quilt

In the fall of 2009, my Mom and I decided to make a touring quilt for the Longing for Heaven Tour.  Where possible, Billy and I will be using this “Little Birdie” quilt as a back-drop for our stage set-up.

The “Little Birdie” quilt is named for the pastel colored birds that make a cameo on this quilt.  It’s also the name of one of our favorite traditional songs performed by beloved folksinger John McCutcheonHere’s a version sung by Leslie Vance Quesenberry of Hiawassee, Virginia.

Little Birdie Fabric

The “Little Birdie” quilt was made from two fabrics from the wonderful folks at MODA.  You can also see this fabric as a background in the booklet for our Longing for Heaven.
