Why Wool?
I could go on for hours about the wonders of wool, the attributes of angora and alpaca,
and the couture of cashmere for diaper covers! I started making diaper covers out of wool when my daughter was a baby and fell in love with natural fibers!. She’s no longer in diapers, but I love working with wool so much that I started selling my creations to,
well hopefully, you!
Here’s a short list of why it works so well...
1)Wool is Cool! Wool helps regulate body temperature. We all know it can keep you warm when you’re cold, but wool actually helps keep baby cool when its hot! Natural fiber is breathable, and much much cooler than plastic pants! Even here in sunny South Florida!
2)Wool is Waterproof! Wool can absorb a tremendous amount of liquid. That’s why a wet sweater feels heavy but not wet! But the real magic is actually the lanolin in the wool. Lanolin is a natural oil produced in the sheep’s skin that is harvested when fleece is washed after shearing. It is very similar to our own natural oils, AND its antimicrobial, so your diaper covers don’t get stinky and require less washing than other textiles. Waterproof Wool works great for heavy wetters over night!
3)Wool is Snuggly! Yes, you read snuggly, not scratchy! All of the fibers I use are reclaimed, recycled knits that I strip, cleanse and felt before working with them. I search for only the softest, sweetest, snuggliest sweaters transforming them into functional fashion and magical toys for your family.
Wool is Wonderful!
And so are these lovely little wooly gourds! Made during a lightning storm on the Harvest moon, they’re stuffed with wool, black beans, and MAGIC! They’ll be available soon in my shop, along with all their wooly owl, bunny and kitty friends!
