My work concentrates primarily around the way in which people perceive and process information. Like anything, I view art as just another way to organize information; internal, external, physical, metaphysical and pair that up with the notion of “opposites”.
I take things that generally would create a contrast between one another and attempt to create a dialogue between them. For example, create movement within a stale atmosphere (the grid). As of late I’ve been venturing with the idea that the surrealists; Marx, Smith, Freud, etc. have been exploring for hundreds of years that is “Automatic Writing”; the process of using the hand to allow the mind to wander on paper. Some would use this in writing as a way to tap into the subconscious, similarly I use it to create a single line that wanders along the paper weaving itself in and out of itself essentially creating a multitude of “perfect curves”.
Within these curves I try to explore different worlds, personalities. It’s as if each cluster contains similar traits, but a level of independence within each cluster. What’s the dynamic when they come together? Do they create a harmonious balance?
Over time the clusters have seemed to develop a migration pattern. Depending on how they are arranged on the surface dictates the dynamic or “dialogue” within the piece.
welcome to the world as seen through my eyes
