December, 2010. James Dower has released his debut vocal CD ‘Now’! With 10 songs written and recorded between 2009-2010, ‘Now’ blends Dower’s diverse stylistic influences into a distinct pop/rock sound that recalls the pop sensibility of Elton John and Billy Joel while drawing deep from the classic rock foundation of bands such as Led Zeppelin and ELP, mixing vocal material with hard-grooving instrumentals. Featuring bandmates and world-class musicians Joe Goretti on drums, Ivan Bodley on bass and special guest Mark Newman on acoustic guitar, ‘Now’ is a showcase of Dower’s talents as a singer/songwriter, pianist, guitarist and producer. Recorded in New York City, the CD carries the energy of the Big Apple while painting images of a life spent in music, being in and out of love, and reflections on time itself. More than anything, Dower makes the statement that time is short - so make the moment last! Which moment? ‘Now’. About James Dower. Raised in Massachusetts, James Dower now resides in New York City. From his early days as an accompanist for school choirs to his work as a sideman in professional bands, James has spent his life exploring the vast world of music as a pianist, guitarist and singer. Studies at Berklee of Music in Boston opened up possibilities for Dower in independent film and television as a composer and songwriter. Performances since the early 90’s as a sideman in New England bands led to the formation of his own group, the James Dower Trio, with whom he released a jazz piano trio CD in 2000. Relocating to New York in 2005, Dower took a big step into the world of professional music, defining his place on the world stage while performing alongside legends of the music business such as Sting, Elvis Costello, Ne-Yo, Wynonna Judd and Sam ‘Soul Man’ Moore. Working as a ‘sideman to the stars’, Dower traveled around the globe and played concert stages and national television shows while working on his own sound at sessions in Queens, NY with band mates Joe Goretti and Ivan Bodley. Late 2009 saw Dower release a CD of solo piano music titled ‘Reinvention’, where Dower explores the sonorities of his favorite instrument: the grand piano. Now, in December of 2010, Dower has released his debut CD as a singer/songwriter: ‘Now’. Drawing from years of professional and personal experiences, ‘Now’ features 10 original songs that define Dower’s life as an artist and a journeyman musician.
