NMS Student Works
Thanks to those who participated in the June 2nd 2007 Student Works:

Caleb Firth performed a short work for solo recorder,
Max Mamis performed a work for piano solo,
A.J. Lynch performed a song for voice and piano,
and Chris Pierce played 2 electronic works using
Audacity and Supercollider.

We enjoyed a very wide range of music from this fun group. Feel free to come to one of these even if you are not a composer, or if you are interested, etc. Its the best way to learn: by watching others go through the process, its less scary.
Stay tuned for the next one in the Fall 2007-08 semester.

NMS Student Works workshop: end of FALL and SPRING semesters at Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, CT. Open and FREE to students who attend NMS and their family and friends. A low-stress, open and inviting place to workshop pieces, unfinished or finished. There is no need to have written the piece down. Just sign-up, and show up!
You bring the performers, we provide the venue. Teachers are encouraged to attend, as well. We ALL love music, and each and every one of us has a creative spark in us.
This is about having fun.

Contemporary Composition Challenge
Open to all interested in composing. There is an application, and fee for NMS and non-NMS participants. Three workshops, and a Masterclass with a professional composer. Past composer/judges have included Ingram Marshall, Susan Harding, Joan Panetti, Jack Vees, John Orfe, David Heetderks, Ed Ludvigsen and Maestro Giussepe Florindo DiPonio.

“Post-minimalism” 2-CD COMPILATION OUT!!!  4 countries / 19 composers
My electronic work “Decantur” (originally created for the Bagelfish Production short film “G-Spots”) was just released on a TRACELAB 2-CD compilation. It has a wonderful mix of composers from all over the world, whom producer Herve Zenouda met through MySpace. TRACELAB is a French label, that has quite an interesting collection of artists and music. As I look at the list of composers, I realize I know some of them...and I think I’m in pretty good company. My good friend Izzo is also on it, as well as my school-mates Belinda Reynolds and Dan Becker! Its an honer to be on it. Of course it would be nice if they actually checked the SPELLING of my NAME!!! But, I’ll take what I can get (all in the name of art...).

and decided to continue the tradition started by Ed Ludvigsen,
Joseph DiPonio and myself years ago in New Haven-
so we performed another live version to the 1922 b+w masterpiece
NOSFERATU (by F. W. Murneau). It was a lot of fun putting it together,
and we now have a page with podcasts (eventually videocasts)and more info for YOU, dear listener!
You are the real reason it all happens.
Thanks so much for being supportive and coming out to the shows!
It was a lot of fun- and we hope to continue it next year.

THREE POE STORIES

Puppetsweat Theater did another performance using my THREE POE STORIES music in New Hampshire this week-end. Director Bob Bresnik informed me (a few days after the performance in a chance meeting in front of a bank I just happened to be opening a new account with) that it went REALLY well. There’s a good chance, he told me, that it will happen with live music in the future. Now THAT would be sweet!

"Bach's Baroque Blender"- (acoustic and electronic mash-ups of Bach 2-Part Inventions) composer Istvan Peter B'Racz: piano/keyboards/electronics; and composer Alphonse Izzo: guitar/electronics... Fun, odd, and intended for a wide group of curious listeners.... An example: B'Racz took the 10th invention ("Olde Tuun/PinballMIX..1"), turned it upside-down, re-keyed it, and re-composed it for guitar and piano adding substantial connective-tissue between each Bach note, and then had a second section in which the 2 instruments "pinball" through their parts to the end. Izzo took the same invention, and created a work using chance, rules, and dice. Screening of "He was a Poet and then he died"
a short film written and directed by Mark Saba,

This is the soundtrack to a 15 minute short poem-film "He was a Poet..." written and directed by Mark Saba and filmed by Jerry Domian. There is no dialog, and only a few words are shown in the film- slow shifting dreamy scenes.The music was created with the mindset that the film itself was "dreaming"- and its own dream generated the sounds.It is a beautiful poem about a poet who dies, and gets buried in a tree. Then a tree company cuts it down and makes furniture.Beautiful haunting "prepared-trumpet" playing by soloist Joseph Drew, and distant ringing tones of Gesualdo with sound-design from noises of trees falling and being cut.Included as the third track of "Papyrus Nugator II" CD (much better quality) available at HERE
