Library
Welcome!
The goal of The Hebrew Day School library is to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading, to teach the students the necessary skills to be efficient and effective information users, and to acquire and maintain a balanced collection which meets the needs of its users. Students visit the Library to check out books, hear stories, learn library skills, and perform research for classroom projects.
Our school has several fun and motivational programs designed to promote student reading. They include the following:
*The Read N’ Rate Program is open to all students from TK-8th in which they can review library books. The top two reviewers in each grade receive a Borders gift card at the end of the year.
* The Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Program is a statewide reading program open to students in grades 3-8. Those who have read at least 3 titles by March are invited to vote for their favorite title. The ballots cast at our school are forwarded to Tallahassee where they help to choose a statewide winner for the year!
* The 4th and 5th grade students learn how to be storytellers and have the opportunity to present their stories to the school at Shabbat. They choose their own stories, adapt them into a tellable format, and work on multiple drafts to get ready for the big day!
