Dartmouth Volksmarch Club’s 25th Anniversary

A CVF Milestone Event      Oct 24 - 26, 2008

It was my great pleasure to attend the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Dartmouth Volksmarch Club [CVF Charter # 001] in Dartmouth / Halifax, Nova Scotia on the last weekend in October. Over the three days of celebrations, there were three walks, a Meet and Greet on the Friday evening, a banquet at CFB Shearwater on Saturday evening, and a lunch together on Sunday. More than 225 walkers registered for the walking events and there were over 100 at the Saturday Banquet. CVF President Benoît Pinsonneault and his wife Diane from Ottawa also attended the weekend’s festivities. The presence of the first CVF President, Ron Colpitts, and his wife Kitty underlined the historic character of the celebration, a first for Volkssport in Canada. Not only were the first CVF President, the newest CVF President, the Atlantic Region Director, several other club Presidents from the Atlantic Region in attendance, but also the newest CVF club President, Nancy Makepeace and her husband, Tom. Originally from Prince Edward Island, Nancy has started up a new club in Hay River, Northwest Territories. After walking some 50 km in three days, I was glad to get on the plane and sit while someone else ‘drove’ me home. My personal thanks to Lionel and Lily Conrod not only for their generous hospitality, but also for organizing the weekend’s events.
