Info About My Site

So I woke up this morning and went to my site and immediately noticed my previous post was nearly a month ago (with the content of that post saying I was going to do a better job keeping my site updated). So, since I’m off today I thought I’d try to add something. How about a little information about my site. My domain name was registered through dnsexit.com. They provide a service that allows individuals with dynamic IPs to host web sites by providing a script to run on your server that regularly updates their DNS with your current IP. I’ve been using them for years and for the most part it works really well. However, recently it’s become necessary for me to host multiple websites and right now my web server is running a version of XP that only allows hosting for one website. So, I’ve got URL forwarding turned on and am actually hosting this website on my mobileme account. My server is hosting my other registered domain name shadesofnine.com

I use some software called RapidWeaver to maintain the site. It’s an application designed for Macs that makes creating websites pretty easy. From what I can tell so far it’s pretty flexible, letting me be as little or as much involved in the HTML as I want. So far I’ve just used the standard templates and haven’t really tinkered with anything.

The pictures section of my site uses a predefined photos page that comes with RapidWeaver. It just hooks into an XML feed from my flickr account and uses some javascript to display the photos as a nifty little slide show. Pretty easy. I’m not completely satisfied with the photos page yet, I’d like to give the user the ability to look at different photo sets from flickr and see other information (like the title, date taken, etc). RapidWeaver has some other configurations I could try or I might try taking a stab at it myself. We’ll see.
